THE STORY
One Sunday morning, Nikki went to the kitchen
to start Sunday dinner and as usual, turned on smooth jazz. A gospel song was thrown into the mix and instantly,
she started to sing. At that moment, she realized this is exactly what her grandmother used to do.

Growing up, Chef Nikki watched her grandmother (Punkin) cook tirelessly to feed her family, neighborhood friends, relatives, and anyone who needed to be loved on. ​In those sweet moments, Chef Nikki's passion for food was born.​​​

to Chef Nikki's grandmother, Hazel.

Chef Nikki was born and raised in Washington, DC
and Edenton, NC. She has served local markets,
(Union Market and Soufside Market), community events, repasts, holiday events, and most recently, her church home, From the Heart Church Ministries, Inc.
​​
She is known for flavorful authentic southern comfort dishes such as smothered chicken, fall off the bone turkey wings, macaroni and cheese, and southern cabbage, just to name a few.
A Lil Taste of Hazel was born to pay homage to her grandmother, Hazel and show love through food,
just as she did. Chef Nikki desires to share her grandmother's timeless southern recipes, continue family traditions, and take you back to your grandma's
table with nostalgia-inducing southern dishes.
